Winona Wallace Akin, age 94, of Norman, passed away on August 25, 2022. She was born August 15, 1928, in Little Axe, Oklahoma, to the late Martin Enoch and Ethel Mae Wallace. On October 4, 1952, she married Gene Akin at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman. They were long-time members of First Christian Church in Norman.
Winona was a supportive wife to her husband throughout his long career with the Norman Fire Department, and she served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary. After her retirement from the academic records department at OU, she and her husband volunteered at the hospital and were members of the Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
Winona dedicated her life to raising her family, and was always volunteering for and attending their various activities. Her favorite times were family gatherings and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Winona was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and three sisters, Katherine McCarley, Billie McCraw and Ramona Steele. She is survived by her son, Mike Akin; two daughters and their husbands, Roberta and Scott Haus, Sue and Doug McKenzie; one sister, Bobbie Mankey; seven grandchildren, Chris Akin and wife Nicole, Jeff Haus and wife Megan, Greg Haus and wife Libby, Katy Haus, Brad Haus and wife Jorden, Ian McKenzie and wife Brooke, and Sean McKenzie; and eight great grandchildren, Timber, Tillie and Teddy Akin, Jacob and Addie Haus, Avery and Willa Haus, and Hudson Haus.
