Welcome to the memorial page for

Clara Marie Maehs

September 29, 1942 ~ May 12, 2014 (age 71) 71 Years Old
Clara Marie Maehs died of multiple health issues Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Noble Health Center in Noble.  She was born September 29, 1942 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to Joseph and Mary Determan Maehs, the third of eleven children.  Clara attended Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School, completing eighth grade in 1956.

She graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1960.  Clara excelled at office practices, especially typing, and following graduation she was employed at Shutler and Baker Law Offices for several years.  She then attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with an accounting degree in 1966.

Her professional career included a number of positions:   for the Wallace family as a member of their newspaper staff in Del City; Bill Burkhart Enterprises; with Warren Shear in his oil and gas business.  This was a perfect fit for her since she was a night-owl and he was, too.  Clara was an accountant for Billie Martin Enterprises, a home health care business.  Plagued by poor health, she retired some years ago.

A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Clara was active in the Cursillo movement for many years, attending weekend retreats both as a participant and a team member.  Ill health forced her to leave this much loved ministry.  She was also very active in the Women’s Group at St. Joseph’s Church in Norman.  Clara volunteered actively with St. Vincent de Paul Society as well, helping to assess needs and benefits.

Clara never married, but she loved and doted on her dozens of nieces and nephews and was especially attached to Robin Roberts Noah and Cheri Roberts Weyland, children of her sister Betty, with whom she lived with during her college years.  She was generous almost to a fault; she provided things for her younger siblings that the family could not provide for her when she was growing up.  During her adult life, she took in several long-time acquaintances temporarily down on their luck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Maehs; and an infant sister.  Clara is survived by sisters, Carol Woitchek (Fred, deceased), Betty (Neil) Roberts, Gerry (Jim) Mathias, Dorothy Hallock (Mike, deceased), Janis (Mike) Bart; brothers, Mark (Deborah) Maehs, John Maehs, and Jim Maehs (Sherri, deceased); and sister-in-law, Lavonne Maehs.  She is also survived by a son whom she relinquished at birth and with whom she was reunited about ten years ago.  She has two grandchildren from that son.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 31st at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 N. Porter in Norman.   There will be no wake service.  If you wish, pray a rosary for Clara privately.  Private Burial will be in the Kingfisher Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Clara to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church School Building Fund in Kingfisher, or to The St. Vincent de Paul Society in Norman.

Arrangements for Clara and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at www.HavenbrookFuneralHome.com.
