Hon. Robert L. “Bob” Bailey, 95, of Norman, passed away on February 9, 2018. He was born on August 28, 1922, in Muskogee, OK, to Robert and Eva Bailey. Bob was raised in Goodman, MO. After serving as a Navy Seabee in WW II, Bob attended Northwestern University and the OU College of Law, graduating with the OU Law Class of ’48. He served during the Korean War in the office of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps. Bob Bailey served Cleveland County and the State of Oklahoma in many capacities: Cleveland County Attorney, State Representative, State Senator, City Attorney for Moore, OK, Assistant District Attorney, Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board member, and Appellate Judge, Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals. After retirement, Judge Bailey served as an “active retired” District Judge for Cleveland County where he was especially successful as a mediator. Bob was directly involved in the development and funding of the State Highway 9/Interstate 35 bridge over the South Canadian River and Norman’s Lake Thunderbird. Bob also served as President and Chairman of the Board of Oklahoma National Bank.

During law school Bob met and married VaRue Lindsay. They had one son, Lindsay. Later, Bob married Vernie Bailey. Bob was known for his love and concern for his community, friends, and especially his family. He was considered true gentleman, respected and admired by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his son R. Lindsay Bailey and wife Deanna; grandchildren, Robert L. Bailey, II and wife Claire; Benjamin H. Bailey and wife Amanda; four great-grandchildren, Eva, Robert "James", Nicole and Sophia; all of Norman; Vernie’s son, Russell Borgman and wife Laine; granddaughter Whitney and husband Kris Hicks; all of Austin, Texas; and sister-in law, Celestine Bailey of Commerce City, Colorado.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Curt and Harold (Ray) Bailey; and wife, Vernie Bailey.

Graveside services will be held at the Norman IOOF Cemetery on Thursday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m.
