As a paralegal in Oklahoma City for the past 30 years....there were many occasions and various circumstances under which "Jack Pointer" was involved and/or adversary, his assistants, legal team, receptionist were/are so very professional and appreciated more than he ever knew.. God bless his family, friends, co-workers and those of you who "butted heads"....

I am sorry for your loss. I have always been told that the measure of man is the vacuum that his absence leaves in the lives of those he leaves behind. I had the pleasure of knowing Jack since the fall of 1967 when we were both entering law school class which at that time, I believe, numbered 190. I think of that number 68 graduated and, I think, by the time of the first exam we were in the hundreds. As most large powerful men are Jack was a gentle man and I always enjoyed his company. I passed the CPA exam in my second year of law school and went on to a career after law school, which Howard Wisdom and I started, which remains in existence today. I think Howard Wisdom, my partner, Robert Flagler, and Jack were one of the few members of the law school class that went into practice after law school almost immediately and managed to stay in existence for a number of years. I will have been admitted to the bar for 47 years this May 25, 2017. Jack and I in a way have lived parallel lives, I graduated Enid, High School in 1959 and spent four years thereafter in the US Navy and enrolled in the freshman class in the fall of 1963. I graduated business school with a double major in accounting and economics in 1967 and of course entered OU Law in the fall of 1967. The last time I recall seeing Jack was at a law school function to honor three distinguished graduates of our era, whose names at the moment I cannot recall, but as I was leaving I ran across Jack and he gave me a hand shake and a bear hug. I know he was a good husband and father to his children as evidenced by their accomplishments. I saw Jack on the last previous occasion, before the law school event, at the OK County Courthouse, on the 5th floor, when I found out I was dealing with his young, beautiful daughter, Assistant DA, Jennifer Austin. His obvious pride in her accomplishment was evident and well founded and I am sure the remainder of his children are equally gifted and accomplished.

I also have three children and did the little league coaching experiment and really learned about who I wanted my children to associate with on a daily basis. I am sure Jack safeguarded his children in the same fashion. My eldest daughter, Mallory Lee Roberts Harrell, graduated OU Law class of 1995, my daughter, Ashley Anne Roberts Magness graduated OU Medical 1998 specializing in radiology/mammography. My youngest son Dennis C. Roberts, II graduated Magna Cum Laude in letters from the honors college and received his MBAJD from the OU college of law in 2003. Our pride in our children was a joint vanity that both Jack and I shared and although it has been many years since our graduation I still feel that many of us in that class are still friends and his death will not change that. My highest regards to all of those who loved Jack.

Regards,
Dennis

Dear Friends:

I was very saddened and felt a great loss in hearing of the sudden death of Jack. I did not know Jack well but I certainly knew his reputation. Bob Wyatt, probably my closest friend in the Bar Association always spoke well of Jack and from time to time, I would see Jack either in the county courthouse or the federal courthouse, or I would read of some battle he had won in Jim Hankins weekly criminal defense report.

He was a great man and great lawyer, but you already knew that, but I am happy to reaffirm based on my personal experience with him, the greatness of his spirit, kindness and empathy.

Sincerely,

Stephen Jones

Jack was one of the best friends I have had in the legal profession. I worked with him on a number of cases and served with him on the OCDLA Board. He was principled, resourceful, insightful, encouraging, and graced with a wonderful sense of humor. I wish I could be there, as I now am practicing near Austin, Texas, but I am there in spirit.

Jack was a good man and a great lawyer. He was always ready to help or advise. I was often in his office to work on cases or about the OCCDLA. He was a dedicated defender.
I'll miss him.
Unfortunately and Jack will understand I will miss the service today because of a deposition I cannot reschedule.

In the mid 1990s I worked for Jack as his legal assistant. He definitely was a character and I enjoyed working for him. He was patient and caring. He was an awesome teacher. My son was about 8 yrs old and fell in love with Jack's Jaguar XKE (I think that was the model.) Jack would always take Clint for a ride when Clint came to the office. I wish we would have stayed in touch. I know you all with miss his jovial disposition. Remember the fun! Karen Harris

We met Jack when Jenny and Jeff were dating. We liked him immediately, so friendly and so much fun. We made several trips to Norman after Jenny and Jeff were married and on a few occasions Jack, Linda, Syd and I went out to dinner, just the four of us. There never was a lull in the conversation and fun was had by all. Syd and I always talked about how lucky our son was, having in-laws like Jack and Linda.
Jack you will be missed so much by your family and your many, many friends. I am grateful that I got to know you Jack and May you Rest In Peace.

There has never been a Dipsey Doodle like him, never will be. Larger than life and twice as funny, with never any hesitation to lend a helping hand. Our lives are made better for knowing Jack. Advocate, mentor, ranconteur, friend, uber defender of his family. There's a hole in the world. Our thoughts and hearts go out to all the family with wishes of peace and love.

I met Jack in the mid to late 1970's when I was an assistant district attorney in Cleveland County and later I had the privilege of having Jack in court when I was on the bench in federal court. I always enjoyed seeing him and appreciated the work he did for his clients. I am out of the country or I would attend his service. You will be missed my friend.
